Blooming Season: Spring, Late Spring
Characteristics: drought-tolerant, heat-tolerant, deer-resistant?
Amsonia ‘Blue Ice’ was selected from a group of chance seedlings of blue star at White Flower Farm in Connecticut. It stands about 2′ tall and a little wider once mature and forms clusters of blue flowers in the spring. The feathery foliage has a fine, fernlike texture that’s attractive even when the plant isn’t in bloom and gratefully, is not (supposedly) a deer fave. The foliage also turns a bright gold in the fall before the plant goes dormant to rest before re-emerging from the ground the following spring.
